Good times at the UH West Oahu event today! TO shared a booth with Green Business Owner Hawaii and right next door was HappyPonics Farm. We shared Transition info with many new folks. Was great that graduates from different recent Permaculture Design Courses connected at the booth too. Hi all, be sure to see the Transition Oahu calendar for many upcoming events. Drop by the TO table at the UH West Oahu grand opening on August 18, attend an Intro to Permaculture Class on the 25th, join us for a picnic at Kakaako Park on the 26th and more. Mahalo to Keith Rose for updating the calendar!
David Johnson, Transition PDX Thanks to all who attended Sunday's Transition event in Waimanalo at Olomana Gardens. We began with a tour of the site by our host Glenn Martinez followed by a delicious potluck lunch. Then our special guest David Johnson from Transition US and Transition PDX (Portland, OR) gave a talk on the origins of the Transition movement and offered insights on the variety of ways that Transition initiatives can gather momentum. Thanks so much to both David and Glenn! Next up a free permaculture movie on May 17.
Monday, March 26, 7 p.m. Bambu - the Venue, 1146 Bethel St, Honolulu (map) $10 at the door / $5 for HPU students The Crisis of Civilization is a documentary feature film investigating how global crises like ecological disaster, financial meltdown, dwindling oil reserves, terrorism and food shortages are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system. Weaving together archival film footage and animations, film-maker Dean Puckett, animator Lucca Benney and international security analyst Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed – author of A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It – offer a stunning wake-up call proving that ‘another world’ is not merely possible, but on its way. Ultimately, The Crisis of Civilization is a film about ideas: ideas that have gotten us into this mess, and ideas that can get us out – if we want to. Hope you can make one of the screenings of the Economics of Happiness and/or the talk with Helena Norberg-Hodge! More info at http://www.transitionoahu.org/calendar.html#eoh
A reminder that we're putting on a screening of YERT - Your Environmental Road Trip on Monday, Feb 13. Get in the mood by watching the trailer. Hope to see you there! (A couple newspaper listings have a different movie for Feb 13, but be assured, the film that screens will be YERT!)
