The Crisis of Civilization is a documentary feature film investigating how global crises like ecological disaster, financial meltdown, dwindling oil reserves, terrorism and food shortages are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system.

Weaving together archival film footage and animations, film-maker Dean Puckett, animator Lucca Benney and international security analyst Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed – author of A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It – offer a stunning wake-up call proving that ‘another world’ is not merely possible, but on its way.

Ultimately, The Crisis of Civilization is a film about ideas: ideas that have gotten us into this mess, and ideas that can get us out – if we want to.

Good screening and discussion this evening! This was a heavy film that confronts us with a set of converging crisis and explores how each is rooted in a world view common in powerful nations/societies. Though sometimes distracting, I found the use of archival footage successful on the whole in adding another dimension to the narrative. The follow-up discussion was heartfelt and informative and here's to making some more connections at the picnic/potluck on Saturday!
