Oahu activists "Draw the Line" on Keystone XL pipeline

9/22/2013

Here are a few photos from yesterday's "Draw the Line" actions on Oahu against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline (which would stretch from Canada's tar sands to the Gulf of Mexico).

The Oahu events were among the 215 taking place across the country organized in conjunction with 350.org.
(Photos are by various photographers as submitted to 350.org.)

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser covered the Kailua event with a photo and thorough article covering 60 square inches. See the article (may need account to view).

For more photos including those from actions all over the country (and even in other countries), see the Draw the Line set on 350.org's Flickr site.

For more information about Keystone XL pipeline and the campaign to prevent its construction, see 350.org.

Stuart Scott, one of the founders of Transition Oahu, is back in town for a few weeks following some international travels and speaking. His place way up Palolo Valley, site of many previous classes and workshops through Transition Oahu and Transition University, is well worth a visit, first time or return. A good chance is this Saturday, September 21 for a volunteer day on the eve of the fall equinox. Info from Stuart:

Meeting time: 10 a.m.
Meeting point: La-'I Road & 10th Avenue (carpool from there)
Event info:
To make it both a fun and rewarding time, we'll do it as a potluck late lunch Equinox Party in the afternoon. We'll have an open grill for those who want to bring something for that kind of preparation, and a cooler with ice for your preferred beverages.
Please bring a set of cup, plate and fork/knife/spoon to help us cut down on the endless waste of paper and plastic goods.

RSVP to Stuart Scott by email to stuart.h.scott@gmail.com or phone to 808-392-5188 and to get directions and logistics if you have not been here yet.

At the potluck/movie in Aina Haina yesterday, we watched two parts of Money & Life. Just letting everyone know that this movie is available to watch in full on YouTube (also embedded below). The website for the movie is http://moneyandlifemovie.com/.

I also mentioned that the PBS NewsHour had recently run a segment on Berkshares, a local currency for the Berkshire region of Massachusetts. Here's that video:
